10-24-23 Reflections on Scripture | Tuesday of the 29th Week in Ordinary Time

Gospel
Luke 12:35-38

Jesus said to his disciples:
"Gird your loins and light your lamps
and be like servants who await their master's return from a wedding,
ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks.
Blessed are those servants
whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival.
Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself,
have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them.
And should he come in the second or third watch
and find them prepared in this way,
blessed are those servants."

Reflection

A wedding is a symbol of our union with God. And what He's saying about that union is so surprising to so many because He's saying clearly that when we are open to God, we are open to some part of Him that we often do not see, and that is his nature as a servant. Our God is a servant

God who longs to serve us, to bring us into the kingdom. Without Him, we cannot enter.

Closing Prayer

Father, the most challenging thing we have is to allow you to love us as we are. Bless us with openness, receptivity to your gift of love and forgiveness. And we ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
