10-21-23 Reflections on Scripture | Saturday of the 28th Week in Ordinary Time

Gospel
Luke 12:8-12

Jesus said to his disciples:
"I tell you,
everyone who acknowledges me before others
the Son of Man will acknowledge before the angels of God.
But whoever denies me before others
will be denied before the angels of God.

"Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven,
but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit
will not be forgiven.
When they take you before synagogues and before rulers and authorities,
do not worry about how or what your defense will be
or about what you are to say.
For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that moment what you should say."

Reflection

Jesus makes clear how important and essential it is to believe that God dwells within us, that He dwelt in Jesus. And when we believe that there's such confidence that can come over us because then no matter what we need to say or need to do in order to be the person we long to be for each other, we should not worry about what we have to say, we’re to trust that He will use His power.

His resonance of love in words, grand gestures, or simply by being present to another. And that's our confidence, that's what we trust in.

Closing Prayer

Father, keep us from relying too much on ourselves and our own gifts. They are essential, but what is most essential is that you are the source of everything that we long to do to bring about your kingdom. Help us to trust in you. And we ask this In Jesus’ name, Amen.
