Gospel
Luke 9:7-9
Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening,
and he was greatly perplexed because some were saying,
"John has been raised from the dead";
others were saying, "Elijah has appeared";
still others, "One of the ancient prophets has arisen."
But Herod said, "John I beheaded.
Who then is this about whom I hear such things?"
And he kept trying to see him.
Reflection
It is clear in the Gospels that Jesus was a real dilemma for so many people. How could this man who doesn't follow the regulations and rules of the temple and begins to speak of intimacy with God in a way that seems blasphemous?
The curiosity had to be very intense. Who is he that can do what he does? It's a wonderful question for all of us to ask, Who is God in my life? Who is Jesus in my heart? The question that is so essential to answer.
Closing Prayer
Father, open our ears to hear, our eyes to see, so we can ponder and wonder about them. The mystery that you've come to reveal, it is not something that can be easily explained. It can only be experienced. And we ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
