8-02-23 Reflections on Scripture | Wednesday of the 17th Week in Ordinary Time

Gospel
Matthew 13:44-46

Jesus said to his disciples:
"The Kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field,
which a person finds and hides again,
and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
Again, the Kingdom of heaven is like a merchant
searching for fine pearls.
When he finds a pearl of great price,
he goes and sells all that he has and buys it."

Reflection

The fullness of the message of God to us as His people is hidden throughout the Old Testament. And finally, in this new time, when Jesus comes into the world to reveal who He really is, a human being filled with divinity, we see something that is so valuable, so wonderful, so beautiful. God living with us. That is the pearl of great price.

Closing Prayer

Father, continue to draw us into that, which is beyond our understanding, beyond our imagination. Something so beautiful, so valuable. Help us to know the world you have created for us. And how you fill us with yourself, your strength, your wisdom. And we ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
