Gospel
Mark 4:21-25
Jesus said to his disciples,
“Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket
or under a bed,
and not to be placed on a lampstand?
For there is nothing hidden except to be made visible;
nothing is secret except to come to light.
Anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear.”
He also told them, “Take care what you hear.
The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you,
and still more will be given to you.
To the one who has, more will be given;
from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”
Reflection
The wisdom in this reading is that we live, fundamentally in darkness. And what the process of life is about is about allowing the light of the Holy Spirit, the light of the truth, to enter into us and to move us into a new understanding of who we are and why we're here.
And it's important to recognize the more that you open your heart to the light, the more that is hidden will be shown to you.
Closing Prayer
Father, help us never to feel that the work is done. Help us never to take solace in thinking we now understand. It is a process. That we need the grace, the light of the truth, to be with us and to guide us. And we ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
