Gospel
Mark 9:2-10

Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John,
and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them,
and his clothes became dazzling white,
such as no fuller on earth could bleach them.
Then Elijah appeared to them along with Moses,
and they were conversing with Jesus.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Rabbi, it is good that we are here!
Let us make three tents:
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
He hardly knew what to say, they were so terrified.
Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them;
from the cloud came a voice,
“This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”
Suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone
but Jesus alone with them.

As they were coming down from the mountain,
he charged them not to relate what they had seen to anyone,
except when the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
So they kept the matter to themselves,
questioning what rising from the dead meant.

Reflection

What is interesting to me in this passage is the cloud. The disciples are going through an experience that is terrifying and confusing and wonderful all at the same time. But it's like this cloud that came over them. The voice of God, it's like stop trying to analyze each of these parts. Just enter into a place of listening to what I'm trying to do for you and what God is doing for you.

He's coming to you in the flesh. And so the cloud is a symbol for all of us to understand that when we enter into the full mystery of what the scriptures are saying, we are encountering God who longs, longs to be a part of our life.

Closing Prayer

Father, help us to acknowledge the desire, the will, the intention that you have for us. You long for us to see the light, life, the truth. And you will show us sign after sign after sign. Awaken us to all the signs you're sending. And we ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
