Gospel
Luke 11:29-32

While still more people gathered in the crowd, Jesus said to them,
"This generation is an evil generation;
it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it,
except the sign of Jonah.
Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites,
so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
At the judgment
the queen of the south will rise with the men of this generation
and she will condemn them,
because she came from the ends of the earth
to hear the wisdom of Solomon,
and there is something greater than Solomon here.
At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation
and condemn it,
because at the preaching of Jonah they repented,
and there is something greater than Jonah here."

Reflection

Jesus points out the evil that's in the hearts of the Pharisees and the scribes. It's clear that if someone is closed minded so much that if someone comes to judge them or try to correct them and they absolutely refuse to change, or if they're so closed minded that they refuse to look at anything that might lead them more deeply into the truth, then they are obstacles to everything that Jesus calls us to be.

We need to be open to criticism. We need to know that there are things we still don't yet know and seek it with all our heart.

Closing Prayer

Father, keep our minds open. Our hearts open to all that she long to show us and teach us. Help us not to be afraid to be wrong, but only to seek what is true and what is right. And we ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
