Gospel
Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus said to the crowds:
"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."

Reflection

Hidden in this passage is the role that Jesus longs to play in your life and in mine. Everyone knows that everyone's life is filled with work, struggle, and sometimes we feel overburdened. And what He’s saying is, I want to create for you a place of rest. And what it is, is when He’s saying, learn from me, He’s saying, look at me.

I struggled. I had work I had to do. I had disappointments. I had all this. But I had one thing that I want you to have a place of rest. And it's the awareness of God in you with you, for you. If we do not rely upon Him to engage with us to do the work that we have, it is too much.

And the rest is always found in knowing that whatever it is we need to accomplish, He will be part of the ability we have to do whatever it is He calls us to do.

Closing Prayer

Father, we need a place to rest and the place is in you, and you are in us, so we need to open our hearts to us being with you in all things. Let that inner core of us be a room of rest, a place of comfort from which we grow, and we change, and we become stronger. And we ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
