Reflections on Scripture | Tuesday of the 27th Week in Ordinary Time

Gospel
Luke 10:38-42

Jesus entered a village
where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him.
She had a sister named Mary
who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.
Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said,
"Lord, do you not care
that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving?
Tell her to help me."
The Lord said to her in reply,
"Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.
There is need of only one thing.
Mary has chosen the better part
and it will not be taken from her."

Reflection

The gospel calls us both to reflection, pondering, wondering, as well as doing, achieving things. It's two things that have to be intertwined,

so that Martha and Mary are the perfect example of the way in which God longs for us to use His wisdom, His insight. He will give to us in the silence of our heart in order to keep us from all the anxiety and the worry that we often get engaged in as we try to do what the gospel calls us to do.

Closing Prayer

Father, action and contemplation. Two very important parts of who we are with you. Bless us with the balance, bless us with the courage. And we ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
