Reflections on Scripture | Wednesday of the Third Week of Easter

Gospel
John 6:35-40

Jesus said to the crowds,
"I am the bread of life;
whoever comes to me will never hunger,
and whoever believes in me will never thirst.
But I told you that although you have seen me,
you do not believe.
Everything that the Father gives me will come to me,
and I will not reject anyone who comes to me,
because I came down from heaven not to do my own will
but the will of the one who sent me.
And this is the will of the one who sent me,
that I should not lose anything of what he gave me,
but that I should raise it on the last day.
For this is the will of my Father,
that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him
may have eternal life,
and I shall raise him on the last day."

Reflection

Jesus makes clear that He, His life is a life that feeds, heals, forgives.

Jesus said that that gift in Him flowing through Him was the father. And He's promising you and me if we believe in His message, if we believe in Him, we also believe that God is in us doing the same thing. Salvation is communal. It's not just us receiving something from God, but it's us receiving something that we carry in us and bring it to others.

That's our calling. That's what He promises to do.

The Closing prayer

Father. Why do we find ourselves so often thinking that we have only ourselves to lean on? Bless us with an open heart to receive your presence, your strength, your wisdom. In order for us to be fully alive and fully who we long to be. And we ask this in Jesus name. Amen.
