Monday of the 25th Week in Ordinary Time

Join Msgr. Don Fischer as he reads and delivers a short reflection on today’s gospel, followed by 3 1/2 minutes of contemplative music and a closing prayer. Msgr. Don hopes that today’s reflection on the gospel will empower you to carry the Word in your heart throughout the day.

Gospel
Luke 8:16-18

Jesus said to the crowd:
"No one who lights a lamp conceals it with a vessel
or sets it under a bed;
rather, he places it on a lampstand
so that those who enter may see the light.
For there is nothing hidden that will not become visible,
and nothing secret that will not be known and come to light.
Take care, then, how you hear.
To anyone who has, more will be given,
and from the one who has not,
even what he seems to have will be taken away.

Reflection

In this passage Jesus is describing His ministry. He enters into the world as the light that has never been fully seen before.

The truth that has never fully been heard. And so what you hear in this is the excitement that I feel He wants to create in the crowd, that they are witnessing the essence of what God has always longed to achieve. Union with human beings.

Closing Prayer

Father, you invite us to listen to the words that you speak, they’re words of life. We may have a glimpse of what that is, but we often can't receive what we’re not ready for. And so bless us with that openness to know the truth so that the little that we have will not be lost. And we ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
