Reflections | CONSCIOUSNESS

Watch as Msgr. Don talks about why it is important to start listening and trusting the voice that sits deep inside of you.

Good morning. Consciousness. A fascinating concept. I never really thought about it that much. But there is a thing I grew up with. I guess everybody grows up with it. It's somebody who has authority, and they tell you what to do or what to say or how to act. Then you say you are the authority figure in your head and you say, “Okay, I'll do what you say.” And then as you grow and evolve, you find out that there's something really wrong about that in a sense that there should be something more all inclusive about following somebody with authority, meaning more motivation. And then I heard about this thing called consciousness and what it has to do with is a knowing. It's not because somebody told you something, but it's something you have deep inside of you. It's like you go inside yourself and you find that authority.

That's the meaning of the word consciousness. Consciousness means that there is a way to be convinced of an idea, a decision that you're going to make that will withstand so much criticism, self judgment. Is this really right? Should I do it? I don't know. And then you say, “Wait a minute. Do I not know or do I really know?” And that's the beauty of consciousness, is that finding that core inside of you that says this is true and nothing that's happening on the outside can take that away from you. And when you're motivated with that, there's a piece inside of you where you don't feel that you're giving up something. There's something about surrendering to an authority outside of yourself, which is important and essential at times, but at the same time, it doesn't feel like it's complete enough to make the kind of inner decision you have to make. So trust in that inner voice. Go to it. It's in your heart. God is there to reveal it to you. And when you find out what you really know and you're conscious, fully conscious of that, you're unstoppable.

Have a great day.
