Reflections on Scripture | Wednesday of the 15th Week in Ordinary Time

Join Msgr. Don Fischer as he reads and delivers a short reflection on today’s gospel, followed by 3 1/2 minutes of contemplative music and a closing prayer. Msgr. Don hopes that today’s reflection on the gospel will empower you to carry the Word in your heart throughout the day.

Gospel
Matthew 11:25-27

At that time Jesus exclaimed:
"I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
for although you have hidden these things
from the wise and the learned
you have revealed them to the childlike.
Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father.
No one knows the Son except the Father,
and no one knows the Father except the Son
and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him."

Reflection

This is a rare conversation between Jesus and his father, and He’s thanking Him and He realizes that those that He has long to reach, that those of the temple, are so resistant and closed that He’s not being able to reach them.

And so He gives thanks for those who do listen the childlike the ones that are open to something beyond their imagining. That's who we should be. The childlike open, receptive, excited about this message of life.

Closing prayer

Father, make us childlike. Help us to be open to things we can't fully figure out, but trust that the one who tells them to us is there for us. Give us a docile heart and we ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
