Luke 7:31-35

Jesus said to the crowds:
"To what shall I compare the people of this generation?
What are they like?
They are like children who sit in the marketplace and call to one another,

'We played the flute for you, but you did not dance.
We sang a dirge, but you did not weep.'

For John the Baptist came neither eating food nor drinking wine,
and you said, 'He is possessed by a demon.'
The Son of Man came eating and drinking and you said,
'Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard,
a friend of tax collectors and sinners.'
But wisdom is vindicated by all her children."

Reflection

The Kingdom of God has been proclaimed for centuries by so many, and they're not all the same. And when you see the difference between the greatest of the Old Testament prophets, which is John the Baptist and Jesus, there's a radical difference in the way they have approached their ministry. But you have to use wisdom which has this quality of imagination which children have naturally.

Wisdom takes what seems to be an opposite and blends it together in a beautiful, powerful way. That's the key. Listen to all the prophets. Listen to all the teaching. Listen to all the examples and imagine the world that they have created. That's the world you want to live in.

Closing Prayer

Father, you have chosen so many to witness to who you are. Bless us with the gift of the Holy Spirit. The gift of wisdom. So that we will find a universal message in all those voices and proclaim the kingdom with confidence and trust and conviction. And we ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
