Gospel
John 15:9-11

Jesus said to his disciples:
"As the Father loves me, so I also love you.
Remain in my love.
If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love,
just as I have kept my Father's commandments
and remain in his love.

"I have told you this so that
my joy might be in you and
your joy might be complete.”

Reflection

There's something about love, that of its very nature, it's transformative. And Jesus makes it clear that His ability to do all that the father called him to do is because he knew how much the father loved Him. And so we're reminded to remain in that awareness ourselves. We are deeply, deeply loved by God. That is the heart of what transforms us into people who follow his commands.

He doesn't love us because we follow His commands. His love enables us to do so.

Closing Prayer

Father, knowing the gift that you receive that enables you to do the work you did is calling us to be more attentive to the ways in which God has shown His love for us. If we look around us, if we look at the world as it is, sometimes we get confused because it isn't what we would like it to be. But at the same time there's an order to it all that is so beautiful and so wonderful. Help us to be attentive to the beauty of your love in all of creation. Amen.
