Reflections on Scripture | Wednesday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time

Gospel
Matthew 5:17-19

Jesus said to his disciples:
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.
I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away,
not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter
will pass from the law,
until all things have taken place.
Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments
and teaches others to do so
will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven.
But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments
will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven."

Reflection

This gospel reveals something about everything that God is seeking to do for us. And He gave us a law which enabled us to understand our nature.

But also 613 laws developed and it was very demanding in what the question was, are we required to do all those things, and the issue is nothing is going to be taken from the law. That is at the heart of the law and the heart of the law is love. And love will never, ever not be the commandment to follow.

Closing Prayer

Father, all the practices that we do in following our religion are ways in which we believe we will be enhanced with an understanding of who you are and what we're here to accomplish. The best thing we can focus on always and you called us to focus on this is do the most loving thing. Bless us with the wisdom and the insight to know what is the heart of what we're here to do and to be. And we ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
